I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.
And now I’m going back.
After ten years.
I hope I can explain that after all this time.
I still want her to be my forever girl.
Honestly, I don’t know what to say. All I can think is, “Tarryn Fisher, what are you doing to me?!” At least this go around I was a little more prepared for the whirlwind of emotions and angst. But let’s be real, it is not possible to be completely prepared for the turmoil that is Leah, Caleb, and Olivia.
I think like most people that read The Opportunist, I HATED Leah. Honestly, knowing that Dirty Red was about her made me a little apprehensive going into this one because I just didn’t know how I could read an entire story being full of hate. But I was pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong, I still hate Leah, just differently than before.
Once again Tarryn Fisher has toyed with my emotions and made me question what I believe to be right and wrong. Leah has done some really disgusting things but I found myself actually sympathizing with her in Dirty Red. I went from hate to sympathy to hate to sympathy to AHHHH! I wanted to scream and honestly did at the end (which is something that I still can’t even talk about).
Dirty Red picks up not long after The Opportunist left off. Not only do we get to see how the story continues but we also get to see flashbacks. These flashbacks allowed me to learn a little about what made Leah who she is. Her family dynamics and upbringing were interesting to say the least. The flashbacks also provide more insight into several things that happened in The Opportunist.
The tortured love story that started in The Opportunist continues in Dirty Red. It is so sad because it is clear that so much love is felt between the characters. Unfortunately, lies and life continue to plague the love making everyone miserable.
Dirty Red is yet another gut-wrenching story with an OMG ending that I would have to give a solid 4 stars. I do wish that we would have seen more of Olivia in the present. I can’t help but look forward to the next book on the series because I have to have faith that there will be a happily ever after at some point. I would definitely recommend this one, especially if you liked The Opportunist.
