Disclaimer: This is just a whole lotta words. LOTS. AND LOTS. OF WORDS. And it’s almost my 4th post today. HOLY HELL! That’s unheard of. I must really be on fire today. :)
I can’t even really describe 2012. There aren’t words that I can put together to honestly portray how amazing it’s been for me, and for my family. We began 2012, and my husband called it “The Year of the Seidler” – why, who knows? We had lots of hopes for our family for the year, and felt like we were finally getting our rhythm. I never could have imagined how awesome it would all become.
In the Spring, after much hype, I picked up the Fifty Shades trilogy. It had been so long since I’d read for enjoyment, and actually stuck with book – let alone devoured a series in about 5 days time. And then re-read it. And then stalked the author. And met her 2 days after finishing the series. And ended up in the Tribune, and on ABC7 Chicago. From there, I was given “suggestions” of what to read next based on my interest in Fifty Shades. That’s when I came across Beautiful Disaster and then the Thoughtless series. From there, I was hooked. It was amazing. I had this passion for books and reading again, but also authors and writing and just connecting with people as a whole.
After a couple months of posting my reviews on Goodreads and Amazon, my husband said, “why don’t I design a blog for you?” Not only did it give me another way to connect with other readers that were reading and loving what I was reading and loving, but it also gave Tim a break from my constantly talking his ear off about what I was reading.
The blog took off (currently at 201 posts since August – and still counting). People were following me. Commenting on my reviews. Buying books I suggested. Authors were messaging me. Sending their books. It was surreal. Still is, in fact.
And I am more grateful than I could ever express. I’ve also connected with some authors who are more than authors now. They’re my friends. We talk daily. They support my blog, but also my life, in general. I’m eternally grateful for the friendships (real, true friendships) I’ve gained through this community. It blows my mind. Daily.
I’ve been given so many opportunities this year – and it’s been so exciting – I can’t even imagine how 2013 can measure up. I was able to beta read manuscripts, but also edit a few books (OMG! Finally using that college degree), and wrote a lot of my own, as well. Of course, personally, 2013 will be amazing because we’re adding a baby girl to our family (Cohen cannot wait for a “baby mister”), continue to watch my friends add to their families (2012 had an AWESOME boom of babes for my close friends), I plan to travel more for signings and get togethers, and of course, continue to read and write. If it all went away tomorrow, though, I would still be thankful for the time I had to do this.
I couldn’t make a list of my top books for 2012 because honestly, they’re all important to me. This year, especially. I read 99 books from April 23 to today. And even the ones I didn’t love, I’m happy to have read them. I’ve learned so much from authors, books, characters, fellow bloggers and readers, that my gratefulness in never-ending. I look forward to what 2013 has in store for me, and I wanted to thank everyone again, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me realize so many dreams this year. And for your support, encouragement, cheering on, laughs, everything – you’re all amazing.
Happy New Year,
