Every Second With You = Sex. Love. Addiction. Heartache. Pain. And Hope.
In the sequel to the bestselling THE THRILL OF IT, Harley and Trey face new challenges that will make battling blackmail, sex addiction, and a virgin call girl past look easy…
I used to think love was a lie. Now I know it’s real, powerful, and I don’t want to lose it…But my future scares me, and there’s no way this can be happening, especially since I’ve finally broken free from all the people who wanted pieces of me. I don’t even know how to start over, but I have to find a way. So when I discover what my mother’s been keeping from me, it doesn’t make me hate her. It gives me hope for a new life, outside of New York. But the ties that bind me to this city are so strong, sometimes they are chains. If only I could leave with…
I will do anything for her. She owns me, heart, mind and body. But when Harley tells me this, I am rocked to the core, and terrified of what happens next. Especially when this time it’s not her past that chases me, it’s someone from my own. And that someone is messing with my head when I’m trying to be strong for Harley. But all I really want is to escape with the girl I love…For the rest of our lives.
How can you move forward when the past keeps chasing you?
I really enjoyed Trey and Harley’s story in The Thrill of It and going back to the night they met in The Start of Us. I’ll admit I was definitely apprehensive to pick up Every Second with You because I was worried there’d be drama just so we didn’t have to read about them sorting socks. And I didn’t want the predictable drama either. I’m a picky reader, yes. Thankfully, while Lauren touched on some of the predictability, she kept it honest, and it made sense, but more than that, it moved on. It was there, but it wasn’t dragged out far longer than necessary. The height of the story focused on Trey and Harley’s growth as a couple, and the challenges they faced, but not necessarily with each other. THANK GOD!
Trey and Harley had quite a bit stacked against them, and they always persevered. When the ultimate test of their relationship presents itself, they have some growing and accepting and overcoming to do … but they do it. The beginning wasn’t pretty for them. There was a particular kitchen scene that was very intense, but so well done. Rather than your typical “Guy freaks out and goes and cheats on girl” scenario, this runs much deeper and is far seedier. It gave me the heebie-jeebies.
So, like I mentioned, there was good drama, and it was realistic, but you still were able to feel connected to Trey and Harley. Nothing seemed so fictional that it was impossible to relate. Both have this push and pull, with each other and with themselves. For every step they make toward growing up a bit more, and freeing themselves of their demons, they would take a step back, too. It was very reminiscent of how your early 20s actually are–especially if you were faced with the pasts and present situations of Trey and Harley.
No matter what was happening, though, these two loved each other. Once we got to the high drama at the end, I was very on edge, and being inside Trey’s head and reading his emotions was intense. He was dealing with a lot, understandably so, and my heart was breaking for him.
As you could expect, the chemistry was still very on point, with enough sexy scenes to light your device on fire. That’s something that Trey and Harley have no issue with–where they had great sexual tension, and eventually some sexy encounters in The Thrill of It, this book has plenty more steamy moments, some brought to you courtesy of hormones. ;)
As for the supporting characters, I could see their friends getting a story–there seems to be something there? Perhaps? And I loved Harley’s grandparents. Loved what they added to the story. The last bit I have to note–I totally appreciate the fact that Barb Coleman remains bitchy Barb the entire story. There was no life-changing epiphany for her. While I didn’t want to see Harley sad, I think Lauren did the story more justice by keeping Barb the way she always was–otherwise I think it wouldn’t have felt as authentic.
When I got to the end, I definitely felt pleased with how this series started, happened, and ended. It felt complete, was easy to read, and would definitely be something I’d recommend. I look forward to seeing what’s next! :)
