Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

Here are the rules:

        • Grab your current read
        • Open to a random page
        • Share 2 “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
        • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away; you don’t want to ruin the book for others!
        • Share the TITLE and AUTHOR too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser.

This week, my teaser comes from The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. I’m about halfway through this book, and am ABSOLUTELY in love. The writing flows so wonderfully, and the story and characters are AMAZING. There is so much sadness and desperation for the main character, Lennie, but mixed with the sarcastic, dry humor, you can’t help but smile. I can tell there’s so much more to the story than I’m currently seeing, and I love that. The intrigue is there, and I cannot put this one down!

I wanted to include the blurb this week, too, because I think it’s such an amazing story, and hopefully reading the blurb, along with my gentle shove (go!) will entice you buy this and read!

Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life – and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey’s boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie’s own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they’re the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can’t collide without the whole wide world exploding.

This remarkable debut is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, and Francesca Lia Block. Just as much a celebration of love as it is a portrait of loss, Lennie’s struggle to sort her own melody out of the noise around her is always honest, often hilarious, and ultimately unforgettable.

I’ve forgotten how to do anything with my lips but kiss furniture. I have no conversation in me.

About the Author
Once upon a time I dreamt of writing for a magazine or being an editor at a publishing house. Nowadays, my dreams include my nearly two year old son, Cohen, napping for longer than twenty minutes, my dog being a little less annoying than he was yesterday, and maybe, if I’m really lucky, being able to get a shower or a load of laundry in before my husband gets home from work. But I wouldn’t have it any other way! I'm blessed to have made some amazing friendships through blogging, and have also gotten into freelance editing. It's about time I use that super fancy and expensive college degree!
